Brief thoughts on Bridget Jones

Right. Well, I finished Bridget Jones’s Diary. I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about it. I think I liked it, mostly? I immediately tried to start reading the second book, but I just couldn’t do it! The second book is quite a bit longer than the first. The thing that made the first book quite readable, for me, was that each diary entry for a certain day was normally only one page long. However, every HOUR was a page long in the second book. I just couldn’t bear it! I do however, have the third, new Bridget Jones book as an ebook on my iPad to read. So we’ll see how that goes. I read something very annoying about it in a review though. ***SPOILER*** Apparently, come the third book, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Mark Darcy, the centre really, of the entire first two novels, has been killed! So the book is about Bridget navigating her life without him. This includes raising their two children. It’s all a bit morbid. Was it entirely necessary for him to be killed off?! I really would like to know the reasoning behind this. Will attempt to research it …! Hopefully there’s a recent interview with Helen Fielding floating around the Internet.

I’m afraid this has been quite a quick post about nothing in particular! But I thought it was best to write something, anything, in case I fall out of the habit. As has happened with previous blogs! Actually, I think I’m doing better with this blog than I have with any of the others. Hurrah!

Am now back to reading Joanna Trollope’s Sense & Sensibility after my Bridget Jones break. Will have a review shortly I hope!
